Abstract

1497649 Acetonitrile MONSANTO CO 29 June 1976 [30 June 1975] 27092/76 Heading C2C Acetonitrile is obtained by reacting carbon monoxide, hydrogen and ammonia at 350‹ C. or above in the presence of a catalyst comprising a transition metal in a reduced valence state. Specified transition metals are iron, molybdenum, vanadium, tungsten, palladium, cobolt, rhodium, zironium and ruthenium. The catalyst may be obtained by heating a reducible transition metal compound at 400‹ to 600‹ C. in a reducing atmosphere of carbon monoxide, hydrogen and/or ammonia.
