Abstract

1497533 Salvage or lifting apparatus D E ANDERSON 24 Jan 1975 [27 Oct 1973 26 Nov 1973 3 June 1974] 50119/73 54704/73 and 24576/74 Heading B7S Salvage or lifting apparatus comprises at least two floatable pontoons 2 of variable buoyancy and on each of which an arm 7 is mounted, each arm carrying gripping or scooping elements 3. The arms pivot at 5 and have locks 4 for progressively and releasably locking them with respect to each other and in use the arms cause the gripping elements to come together as calipers. Pressure sensing equipment is provided in the grips to feed back information to the locks to cause them to lock and to prevent further increase in pressure once a predetermined pressure is reached. The arrangement is able to hold a salvaged object at the water surface. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown) the pontoons are pivotable about their longitudinal axes.
