Abstract

1497064 Antifouling paints PAINT RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 7 Aug 1975 [12 Aug 1974 5 Nov 1974] 35498/74 Heading C4A [Also in Division C3] An antifouling paint for submerged surfaces contains as an antifouling agent a substituted furan or thiophene having the general formula in which Y represents an oxygen or sulphur atom, and when Y represents an oxygen atom, X represents an aldoxime, hydrazone or thiosemicarbazone group and R represents a nitro group or X represents a hydrazone or thiosemicarbazone group and R represents a hydrogen atom, and, when Y represents a sulphur atom, X represents a hydrazone or thiosemicarbazone group and R represents a hydrogen atom or a nitro group or X represents an aldehyde or aldoxime group and R represents a nitro group. In the examples, the antifouling agents are incorporated into paints comprising rosin, chlorinated rubber, tricresyl phosphate, xylene, white spirit, vinyl chloride/acetate copolymer, methyl isobutyl ketone and zinc oxide.
