Abstract
1497043 Aerating liquids AMES CROSTA BABCOCK Ltd 11 Feb 1975 [9 Feb 1974] 6024/74 Heading B1C Liquid aeration apparatus especially for the activated sludge process comprises an aeration channel in the form of a closed loop having a liquid inlet and outlet first means for introducing air or oxygen, and submerged second means located between the liquid inlet and the first means whereby the liquid may be caused to flow at a controlled rate past the first means. The first means 13 may be a rotatable bladed inverted cone (see also Fig. 2 not shown) a horizontal rotor (24 Fig. 3 not shown) having discs or brushes (25), a perforated hollow rotary drum containing a large number of surface-increasing elements, or a gas diffuser (29 Fig. 4 not shown). The second means may be a propeller 22 or screw pump, the flow rate being altered by varying the speed of rotation or pitch, it may additionally serve to maintain activated sludge solids in suspension. The first means may be supported by a bridge or floats, and if of inverted bladed cone type may have an uptake pipe (18) and a deflection plate (20) attached to the drive shaft (19).
