Abstract

1496847 Isostatic moulding CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 5 April 1976 [22 Aug 1975] 13647/76 Heading B5A [Also in Division B3] A ceramic or metallic powdered preformed article 10 which is to be shaped and densified in die 12 is surrounded by a support material 22 which consists of a mixture of a low friction material such as graphite or boron nitride and a heat decomposable polymeric binder such as an ethylene propylene diene modified rubber and a polyvinyl butyral. The binder is decomposed by heat to give a uniform pressure transmitting medium surrounding the article before the die pressure is applied to shape and densify the article.
