Abstract

1496144 Controlling light MARCONI CO Ltd 26 Aug 1974 [8 Nov 1974] 48503/74 Heading G2F In the manufacture of an electro-optic display device, two electrode bearing flexible glass plates 0À5 to 1À8 mm thick are spaced by a thermoplastics washer, electro-optic liquid e.g. an electro-phoretic or dipole suspension, or a liquid crystal material, is introduced into the volume bounded by the plates and washer, and the plates are sealed together under pressure by RF heating of the water. To improve adhesion the glass if first treated with a silane coupling agent. The washer may be cut from a sheet, or deposited e.g. by powder psraying or screen printing.
