Abstract

1496103 Compositions for making clay-ware H JAKLIN 24 Sept 1976 [25 Sept 1975] 39869/76 Heading C1J The compressive strength of clay-ware made by shaping and firing an argillaceous mass is improved by uniformly distributing throughout the mass at least 0À05% by weight of an active silicate of magnesium, calcium, barium and/or aluminium, which has been prepared by precipitation from water glass with a salt of the appropriate metal (or metals) and, optionally a mineral acid, and has a B.E.T. surface area greater than 15 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. In examples, up to 3% by weight of magnesiumaluminium silicate of surface area 80 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. and containing 98% of particles smaller than 40 microns is incorporated in a clay containing 40% of fireproof clay.
