Abstract

1496017 Pullulan fibres SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd and HAYASHIBARA BIOCHEMICAL LABORATORIES Inc 19 March 1975 [20 March 1974] 11470/75 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] In a process for producing pullulan fibres an aqueous solution of pullulan is wet spun or a melt of pullulan plasticized with water is melt spun at a temperature of up to 100‹ C. into a gas phase. Spinning solutions contain 5-99% water and optionally a plasticizer or softener such as a polyol or dimethyl sulphoxide. The spinning solution may also contain a water soluble polymer or an emulsion of a water insoluble polymer to produce an improved fibre. Alternatively the pullulon fibre may be rendered insoluble by including a mono- or poly-functional monomer and an initiator into the spinning solution or the formed fibre may be crosslinked by reaction with an aldehyde, epoxy resin, diisocyanate, dimethylol urea or dimethylolethylene urea, or by treatment with bichromate followed by erradiation by light. Fillers colorants and flame proofing agents may be added.
