Abstract

1494914 Cultivating edible fungi LICENCIA TALALMANYOKAT ERTEKESITO VALLALAT 29 Oct 1974 [2 Nov 1973] 46721/74 Heading A1E A process for cultivating edible fungi comprises providing a comminuted growth medium of conventional composition, filling it into a cultivation unit having a wall of flexible organic material, the growth medium being inoculated either before or after filling step, with the mycelium of the desired fungus, allowing the mycelium to propagate throughout the growth medium which is held in the unit with limited access to air, then making at least one opening of sufficient size in said wall to create the usual growth conditions of the fungus. The cultivation unit may be tubular, about 20 cm. diameter and 80 cm. long, of transparent plastics, textiles or linenbacked rubber material which may be perforated for limited aeration. Mycelium inoculation is either by admixing the growth substrate and cereal grain germs before filling the unit, or, after filling, by placing a perforated tube in the growth medium, sterilising the whole unit above 100‹C, and threading through the tube a mycelium imprgenated organic filament, or by positioning an unperforated tube threaded through by such a filament heat-treating between 50‹ and 70‹C and removing the unperforated tube to leave the filament in the growth medium, or again a filament is pulled through the growth medium by a wire placed in the growth medium during the heat-treatment. The filled and inoculated units are sprayed with insecticide and stacked with their ends closed for mycelium propagation during about 32 days. Slits of 4-5 cm. are then made in the units wall to allow growth of the fungus.
