Abstract

Indole derivatives of the formula I <IMAGE> and the corresponding acid addition salts and quaternary ammonium salts of these compounds, in which formula R is hydrogen or lower alkyl, R<1> is hydrogen, lower alkyl, aryl-lower alkyl or aroyl, R<2> is hydrogen, lower alkyl or aryl, R<3> is hydrogen, halogen, lower alkoxy, aryl-lower alkoxy, hydroxyl or lower alkyl, R<4> is acyl, A is an alkylene radical or a mono- or diketo or hydroxyalkylene radical having 1 to 5 carbon atoms and X is oxygen or sulphur, are obtained by acylating a corresponding compound of the formula I in which R<4> is hydrogen, and optionally converting the resulting compounds into the quaternary ammonium salts. The compounds of the formula I which can be prepared according to the invention have a pharmacological activity, such as, for example, an action on the cardiovascular system and in particular a hypotensive and/or antihypertensive activity.
