Abstract

1494733 Air cushion vehicles BRITISH HOVERCRAFT CORP Ltd 16 Dec 1974 [21 Dec 1973] 59618/73 Heading B7K An air cushion vehicle has body structure 21 extended laterally by upwardly foldable rigid platform portions 26 to enable the width of the vehicle to be reduced, bag and finger inflatable skirt 24, 25 supplied through flexible ducts 31 by a lift fan 30, a forward propulsion ducted fan 27 and retractable wheels (not shown) on which the vehicle may travel when the cushion is inoperative and the portions 26 are folded against the body structure. To assist forward propulsion in this mode of operation valve means may be operated to divert air from lift fan 30 to rearwardly directed propulsion ducts 35. In an alternative construction (Figs. 7-12, not shown) the portions 26 are inflatable by fan 30 when the skirt is inflated.
