Abstract

1494404 Telescopic ladder CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 21 May 1975 [13 June 1974] 21898/75 Heading E1S A telescopic ladder, for attachment to a side surface 14 of e.g. a large vehicle to enable an operator to mount thereon, comprises upper and lower ladder portions 20, 22 telescopically interengaged, and so mounted that the ladder extends to its operative length and position (shown in broken lines) under the weight of an operator thereon, but is automatically retracted to its stored length and position when the weight of the operator is removed. As shown, the ladder portions, which have telescoping tubular side members, are mounted on respective upper and lower pivoted links 52, 54 of different lengths, whereby on swinging downwards from the stored position the ladder extends and tilts into the operative position. A spring-biased dashpot unit 70 is connected to the upper link 52 to effect the automatic retraction, and to limit the rate of extension and retraction.
