Abstract

1494079 Boring and facing heads STAVELEY MACHINE TOOLS Ltd 22 Nov 1974 [23 Nov 1973] 54550/73 Heading B3C A boring and facing head for a machine tool comprises a body 101 having a hollow hub 126 mountable for rotation about its axis, a slide 102 radially slidable in the body and drive means for the slide comprising an electric motor 103 radially displaced from the hub, the electrical supply to the motor being fed into the head from a stationary part of the machine, through slip rings 115 on the machine and brushes 114 on the head, or vice-versa. Stepping motor 103 may be connected via the slip rings and brushes to a power source 117 which is controlled by a numerical control unit (not shown) and may move the slide via gears 104, 105 and feed screw 106. Slide 102 has T-channels for mounting a boring tool 122, Fig. 3 which is locked therein by filler blocks 121. Movement of the slide is limited and controlled by actuation of switch 123 by fixed or adjustable trip dogs 124, 124A.
