Abstract

1493805 Valves EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 17 Dec 1974 [18 Dec 1973] 58523/73 Heading F2V [Also in Division G3] In apparatus for filling tanks up to a desired level, a valve 2 is held against its seat partly by a light compression spring and partly by fluid pressure acting on its back face 2. The valve opens in response to inlet pressure when the pressure on its back face is relieved by manual opening, by lever 6, of a pilot valve 3. When the level of liquid in the tank reaches the end of a dip tube 9, in communication with an ejector E in the delivery conduit C, pressure in a chamber 24 fills and a diaphragm 11, bounding the chamber and connected to the pilot valve, closes the pilot valve with a snap action resulting from a toggle mechanism 5. When the delivery conduit C is short the ejector E may be dispensed with, line 8 being fluid-tight between the dip tube and the valve, and a rotatable collar 12 having an orifice therethrough is used to provide communication between the chamber 24 and a passageway 7 which then acts as an ejector.
