Abstract
1493746 Peltier cooling unit UNIFRIDGE OF CANADA Ltd 6 Feb 1976 [10 Feb 1975] 4809/76 Heading H1K A Peltier cooling unit for mounting in an aperture formed in an insulated enclosure comprises a cold plate finned on one face, the plate being adapted for mounting the unit in the aperture and having disposed thereon a thermoelectric module having at its back side a heat sink plate equipped with cooling fins, a fan arranged to circulate area over said cooling fins, and optionally a power pack for supplying current to the fan and module. In the illustrated embodiment shown inside elevation in Fig. 2 two side by side mounted modules 32, spaced from aluminium cold plate 22 by thermally conductive blocks 30 are clamped to plate 22 by bolts 33 the heads of which engage the common copper-plated aluminium heat sink 25, the U- shaped fins 12 being attached by rivets and fins 13 by epoxy resin which extends through countersunk holes in plate 25 for keying purposes. The space between plate 22 and dishshaped sheet plastic cover 38 on which fan 14, transformer 40, bridge rectifier 49 and input filter capacitor 41 are mounted is filled with pre- or in situ-formed thermal insulation, e.g. polyurethane foam with an aluminized plastics moisture barrier forming sheet adjacent the cold plate. A thermostat on one of spacers 30 controls the supply of power to fan and modules and another on plate 25 switches power off when its temperature becomes too high. The unit is completed by an outer plastics cover 15, which is apertured over the fan and cooling fins, and carries an A.C./D.C. switch and a thermostat override switch.
