Abstract

1493579 Aerating and agitating liquids AMES CROSTA Ltd 19 Feb 1975 [7 Dec 1973] 56961/73 Heading B1C An apparatus for the aeration or agitation of a standing body of liquid comprises a rotor rotatable about a horizontal or (as shown) a vertical axis having blades 20 and a driving element 15 disposed about the periphery of the rotor and acted on by an adjacent drive means 16; as shown, spur and ring gears. Alternatively the rotor might be driven by a belt or chain drive, a linear electric motor acting on a peripheral ring, the impact of a liquid jet on peripheral turbine-type blades sequentially operating hydraulic or pneumatic rams, or the reaction from air jets attached to the blades 20; in the last case the jets may also inject air with the liquid. The blades may be flat, curved or otherwise profiled. The apparatus may be a biological contacter.
