Abstract

1493355 Actuating slides; tool feeds ALFRED HERBERT Ltd 3 Dec 1974 [6 Dec 1973] 56606/73 Headings B3B and B3T A cross slide assembly, e.g. for a multi-spindle lathe, comprises a slide 1 movable on a fixed support 2 in one direction by oscillation of a shaft 7 which is connected to the slide, through an arm 5 link 30 and position adjusting means 23, and spring biased in the return direction by one or more springs 12 which act between an abutment 17 on the fixed support 2 and an adjusting gear wheel 18 on the slide, and is characterized in that when the adjusting means 23 is rotated to adjust the position of the slide relative the arm 5, the gear-wheels 18 are also rotated to adjust the position of the abutment 17 in the same direction so that the loading of the springs 12 remains substantially unchanged regardless of the adjusted position. The slide position is adjusted relative to the arm 5 by means of a threaded connection between an adjusting ring 23 and a screwed shaft 26. The ring 23 is formed with a gear ring which engages an idler 21 which meshes with abutment adjusting gearwheels 18. The gear-wheels 18 engage a square portion 16 of rods 14 on which the springs are mounted. The rods 14 are screw threaded 15 into the fixed support 2 so that rotation of the rods vary the position of the abutments 17.
