1492787 Storage installations INTERLAKE Inc 4 Nov 1974 47549/74 Heading A4T [Also in Division H2] In a storage and retrieval installation a transfer vehicle 20 moves along a path adjacent to the ends of four storage frames 10-13 between which are aisles 16-18, the vehicle 20 having located thereon a load carrier 14 for movement into any one of the aisles, e.g. the aisle 17 as shown in Fig. 1, for the reception or deposit of articles in the storage frames, there being conductive buses 26 disposed in each of the aisles for transmitting power to the load carrier 14 when located in an aisle. Power is supplied from a power source (not shown) to an electrical male coupling 38 on the transfer vehicle 20 by way of a power transmission conductor 32 which is wound on a reel 34 and a conductor 36, the male coupling 38 being engageable with each of a plurality of female couplings 46 mounted at the ends of the storage frames, so that when the coupling 38 is engaged with one of the female couplings 46, such as the coupling 46 on storage frame 11 as shown, the load carrier 14 is located in alignment with the associated aisle, e.g. aisle 17 as shown, and power is supplied through the engaged couplings 38, 46 and through a conductor 50 to the buses 26 in that aisle, so that when the load carrier 14 moves off the vehicle 20 into that aisle it receives its power from the buses, the vehicle 14 having a conductive contact coupling 30 mounted thereon which engages the buses. Only the buses 26 in that particular aisle are energized.
