1492553 Surgical gowns JOHNSON & JOHNSON 10 OCT 1975 [21 Oct 1974] 45375/74 Heading A3V One end 21 of a resiliently extensible belt 22 is attached to a portion of the external surface of a back-closing surgical gown (1) below one arm e.g. at waist level, at or towards the side of the gown, directly under the arm or slightly forward of that position, the other end 30 being attached to a first part 35 of a clasp, the second part 36 of the clasp being attached to the other underarm portion 37. The fluid-repellent non-woven fabric gown comprises sleeves (3) and a sheet (2) of a front portion (14) and back portion (13), the back portion having left 4 and right 5 flaps. The gown is folded so only interior surfaces are exposed. Detachable tabs are held by the nurse while the surgeon dons the gown. Flap 4 is secured to flap 5 by closures (8), 10, 11. Pocket 23, stitched to flap 4, houses end 30 which is stitched to clasp part 35, which part is temporarily attached to cord 29. The nurse pulls the cord from the pocket to stretch the belt, the surgeon grasps the belt to detach the cord from the belt and fasten plastics clasp parts 35, 36. Belt 22 comprises parallel elastic rubber latex tapes (55) stitched while under tension to non-woven non-elastic fabric strips (52, 56, 57). The outermost strip (52) may be of the same material as the gown. The cuffs may be of the same material, the outermost layer of cuff and sleeve being integral and layer (56) being cotton. The belt may have elastic threads. The belt length may be the same as the distance from attachment point to pocket 23 or the belt may be folded prior to use. A pair of trousers are provided with waistband and anklets like the cuffs. The clasp comprises a tongue 41 engageable with a pair of slots 45, hooks and eyes, interlocking loops, press-studs or pressure sensitive fasteners. The folded gown is supplied in a sealed sterile package.
