Abstract
1491969 Toothed gearing ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 6 May 1975 [7 May 1974] 19047/75 Heading F2Q [Also in Division F1] In a gear pump or motor, two rotors 15, 16 consist of toothed gear wheels meshing in external engagement, and, at least on one flank of every tooth on each wheel, the tooth profile is modified in a deviation from a simple involute profile by the removal of material near the crest of each tooth to provide a relieved portion 28, Fig. 5, the tooth arrangement being such that actual tooth-to-tooth contact becomes limited to a region on the flank near to the pitch circle, and the contact ratio only slightly exceeds a value of unity, for drive in one sense of rotation. In another embodiment, relief applied to both flanks of each tooth, Fig. 2, permits drive in both senses of rotation. Whereas unmodified involute teeth would theoretically have made contact from point a<SP>1</SP> to point a<SP>11</SP>, with a contact ratio of approximately two, the modified teeth in practice make contact solely over the path b<SP>1</SP> to b<SP>11</SP>, with the involute tooth geometry remaining otherwise unchanged. It is stated that this results in reduced friction and impact between teeth and a reduction in instantaneous torque fluctuations relative to those of unmodified teeth.
