Abstract
1490511 Propellants DIEHL 26 April 1972 [23 June 1971] 19501/72 Heading ClD [Also in Division F3] Carbon or graphite filaments are embedded in a propellent charge or applied to the surface thereof, and are oriented in, or mainly in, the direction of combustion, i.e. in a direction longitudinally of the charge. The filaments may be in the form of filament bundles, mats, fabrics, nets or cords. In order to increase burning speed or improve adhesion, the filaments may be treated with a supersaturated solution of a perchlorate, nitrate, or peroxide, nitrocellulose, polybutadiene, polyurethane, or thin layers of aluminium. Examples describe methods of making the propellent charge in which the propellant comprises a mixture of nitrocellulose and nitroglycerine or a mixture of ammonium perchlorate and polybutadiene or polyurethane. The charge may be used in caseless ammunition.
