Abstract
1489986 Multiple tray adsorber BRITISH CECA CO Ltd 26 Jan 1976 [21 Feb 1975] 7404/75 Heading B1L Apparatus for contacting gas or vapour with a particulate solid material comprises (1) a shell (1) having a gas inlet or outlet port (2); (2) a pillar (3) within the shell having a port (9) communicating with the exterior of the shell, said pillar comprising a hollow interior forming an interior duct having a plurality of apertures or groups of apertures (4) at intervals therealong; (3) a plurality of trays (5) each tray corresponding to an aperture or group of apertures and being position below said corresponding aperture or group of apertures, each of said trays having a lower surface (6) permeable to gas but capable of supporting particulate solid material e.g. activated carbon, and (4) baffles (8) projecting from the central pillar to the periphery of each of said trays so as to enclose the upper surface of each of said trays and said corresponding aperture or group of apertures such that passage of gas between the space enclosed by said shell but exterior of the column and the interior of the column is possible only through a tray and corresponding aperture. A sparge pipe 10 is for the introduction of steam to regenerate the beds.
