Abstract

1489983 Discharging hoppers HAUNI WERKE KORBER & CO KG 21 Jan 1975 [25 Jan 1974] 2504/75 Heading B8S Apparatus for supplying articles such as filter rods 4 to a filter attachment machine comprises a supply container 6 for containing the articles, the container having converging side walls 34, 36 which partly define a bottom opening which is closed by a rotary drum 7 formed with peripheral grooves 37 which each receive an article 4 on passing through the supply region 39 of the container 6, and in order to prevent arching or bridging of the articles in the region at which the grooves 37 enter the container 6 the side wall 34 is provided with a section in the form of one run of a drivable belt 41 which, in use, is driven in the direction of arrow 42 so that the articles 4 adjacent the belt 41 are maintained in a rolling formation as is indicated by the arrows 46. A retaining plate 47 prevents articles from prematurely falling out of the grooves 37 but alternatively suction could be applied to the grooves. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the rotary drum (107) is provided with a distributor ring (151) which rotates therewith, the ring (151) comprising slots (152) which open into the grooves (137) formed in the drum (107). A sealing block (149) is provided with a bore (153) through which air is blown in the direction of the arrow (154) and when a slot (152) passes the bore (153) the air blasts the article located in the associated groove (137) into a feed pipe (not shown) for transfer to a further processing station.
