Abstract

1489921 Railway control system WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO Ltd 2 Jan 1975 [25 Jan 1974] 03704/74 Heading G4H [Also in Division B7] A railway control system (e.g. for signals and points) comprises control apparatus 21 each comprising at least two control sets 24 each individually capable of performing a railway control function by producing substantially coincidentally respective outputs in response to common inputs, and means 25 responsive to the outputs to pass them to perform the control function only when a majority or all of the outputs agree and to fail-safe otherwise. Means 25 may consist of a relay OOC connected in series with relays A, B, in the output circuits of both sets 24, sen the state of each relay A must be the same as the state of the corresponding relay B. Alternatively, an AND- gate may be used, or there may be three sets 24 with decision on a majority basis. Suitable input and output circuits incorporating checking and safety features for the sets 24 are described with reference to Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown). These may include means for scanning the states of contacts to be controlled under the command of a central station 12, when relay OOC is given a release time of at least the input scan cycle length of computers 24 to avoid erroneous fault indications.
