Abstract

148,918. Fehler, O. June 6, 1918, [Convention date]. Filaments, supports for; filaments; repairing; bulbs; residual gases.-Incandescent electric lamps, of the type in which filaments are shaped to form letters, numerals, sketches, &c., are fitted with numerous guide hooks disposed without reference to any particular design and round which the filament is wound in any desired configuration. Fig. 2 shows filaments, with separate leading-in wires d, passed round hooks c to form numerals. Fig. 3 shows a box form of lamp having glass plates h placed side by side, above, or behind one another and carrying filament-supporting hooks a. Reinforcing members e and baffles k, l, to shield the filaments when air is admitted to the lamp for the purpose of changing the filaments, are provided. Parts of the filament which are required to be non-incandescent are enclosed in air-filled glass tubes. In a modification the filaments are arranged on the hooks in the form of lines, gratings, or nets, and are viewed through stencils which can be changed.
