Abstract

1489072 Optical isolator INDUSTRIAL CONTROL SERVICES Ltd 17 Feb 1975 [19 Feb 1974] 7522/74 Heading G1A [Also in Division H2] In an optical isolator arrangement signals from one electronic circuit on a board 20 are transmitted to another electronic circuit on a board 10 by way of a light emitting diode P.E.D. at one end of a bore 32 in a metal block 30 and a photo-transistor PT at the other end. The brass block may be connected to the earths of the two different circuits. The bore may contain a fibre optics cable. The circuits 10, 20 can be mounted on the same cicuit board with the block 30 positioned accordingly. The circuit containing the light emitting diode may also contain a temperature transducer whose contacts are closed so long as a prescribed safe temperature is not exceeded. If the safe temperature is exceeded the contacts are opened to turn off the light emitting diode. Examples, Figs. 1, 3 and 4 (not shown) of several circuits are disclosed.
