Abstract
1488755 Vehicle safety belts GENERAL MOTORS CORP 24 July 1975 [17 Aug 1974] 30961/75 Heading A3V A safety belt system in a motor vehicle having a door which slides forwards to open comprises at least one belt and is connected at one end to a first anchorage point 2' adjacent the rear edge of the door and at another end to a second anchorage point 3 adjacent the longitudinal axis of the vehicle floor. one such connection being direct and the other through a retractor such as an inertia reel 4. and the belt is passed through a guide 8 movable parallel to the rear edge of the door to displace the belt upwardly from point 2' when the door is opened to allow access to the adjacent seat, the belt being applied to the occupant when the door is closed. The system may be a single lap belt or a three point belt with either two inboard or two outboard (as shown) anchorage points. The guide 8, e.g. a D-ring, is raised by a cable 14 operated by a reel 10 which is driven by a roller 16 engaging a guide rail 6 of the door. Guide 8 may fall under its own weight or under spring bias when the door is closed.
