Abstract

1488255 Texturing yarns COURTAULDS Ltd 27 Feb 1975 [5 Feb 1974] 05228/74 Headings D1F and D1W In a false-twist texturising process, a multifilament, synthetic e.g. polyamide, polyester, cellulose acetate and triacetate, yarn passes through a conventional twist-tube comprising a cross-pin but without wrapping around the pin: a comparatively low (40 turns per inch) false-twist is imparted to the yarn which, in contacting the pin and the ends of the tube, is opened so that the torque-lively filaments are formed into loops and may also be slightly edge-crimped. The texturising may be immediately preceded by, or effected simultaneously with, drawing. The looped yarn structure is then modified and stabilised by passing the yarn through an interlacing jet the pressure (8-60 p.s.i.g.) of the operating fluid e.g. compressed air, within which is varied according to the type of yarn e.g. with the loops disposed evenly or unevenly in regular or irregular concentrations along the length thereof. As shown, yarn I withdrawn from a package 2 by feed rolls 3 passes through plate heater 4, the false-twister 5, in relaxed state through plate heater 13, thence through nip rolls 14, under tension into wound package 15. The interlacing step may immediately precede wind-up with rolls 14 open, Fig. 2 (not shown). The yarn may comprise at least two components e.g. staple spun yarn or monofilament yarn, which differ in their response to the action of the falsetwister and/or the jet: in the false-twister, the additional component may pass around the cross-pin. Yarn(s) may be texturised in adjacent twisters rotating in similar or opposite directions.
