Abstract

1487670 Bridge "SATCHWELL-BIRKA" REGELUNGSTECHNIK GmbH 25 June 1975 [6 Nov 1974] 26973/75 Heading G1U A bridge consisting essentially of a variable resistor 3, Fig. 1, e.g. a thermistor, to be measured, a second resistor 4, and two potentiometers 20, 22, is characterized in that the supply voltage across the bridge is automatically controlled 27 so that the potential difference between the two potentiometer taps is maintained constant equal to the potential across a resistor 38 when a constant current is drawn through it by a current sink 28. The diagonal output voltage from the bridge is converted to a proportional current i through a resistor 9 by isolating amplifiers 6, 17 and a transistor 7. The arrangement is such that when the resistor 3 is a thermistor the relationship between its temperature t and the resulting current i is substantially a straight line extending between a lower point set by potentiometer 22 and an upper point set by potentiometer 20. Typical possible characteristics are shown Fig. 2 (not shown), and by using slider potentiometers the two slider knobs can be arranged against a calibrated scale to indicate the two end points of the characteristic. The bridge is for use with a night storage heater or a hot water system.
