Abstract

1487511 Bearings; seals SKF INDUSTRIAL TRADING & DEVELOPMENT CO BV 29 Jan 1975 [30 Jan 1974] 3876/75 Headings F2A and F2B A rolling thrust bearing comprises a sleeve 19 located radially outwardly of the race rings 1, 2 to limit axial separation of the rings, a first seal 5 located between the rolling elements 3 and the sleeve, which seal bears against each ring, and a further seal 4 located radially within the rolling elements, the further seal being connected to one ring 2 and including an elastic portion 7 which bears against the other ring 1. The seal 5 is provided with a cast-in metal insert 17 having an annular abutment surface 18 for the rolling elements. The surface 18 may be cylindrical as shown, or concave in section. The seal 4 comprises a metal supporting portion 6. The faces of the seals may be formed with one or more annular grooves so as to provide two or more sealing lips. Each sealing face may extend into an annular recess in the surface of the race ring which it contacts.
