Abstract

1487475 Arranging rows of articles on a conveyer belt E BAUER 20 Jan 1975 [22 Jan 1974] 2405/75 Heading B8A Articles 2 in a single stream, are alternately diverted into two streams on a conveyer belt 4, by the action of reciprocating members 57. The latter are carried in guide sleeves 50, each end of which is secured to a respective endless member 48, 49. The reciprocation of the members 57 is brought about by the action of cam followers 52 running in cam tracks 53. The chains 48, 49, run at a slightly slower speed than the belt 4, so that the articles tend to back up against an adjacent member 57 having first been deflected laterally by the tip of the member as it starts its lateral movement. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown), the guide sleeves 50 for alternate members 57 are carried on respective pairs of chains on each side of the conveyer belt 4. In another modification (Fig. 1, not shown) each member 57 is carried by the outer end of one arm of a bell crank shaped member. The pivot of the bell crank is connected to an endless chain corresponding to one of the chains 48, 49, of Fig. 2. The outer end of the other cam has a follower running in a cam track corresponding to the track 53. The apparatus may be modified so as to generate more than two rows of articles.
