Abstract

148,741. Fischer, W. F. June 28, 1919. [Convention date]. Bearings and bearing-surfaces.-A machine for cutting grooves in bearings has means whereby straight-circular, or spiral grooves of various characters may be cut either continuously or interruptedly. The work is carried by a spindle driven from the driving-shaft 14 by means of toothed gearing; the pinion 6 having a clutching- device so that for straight grooving the work may be kept stationary. The driving-shaft carries a bevelled pinion 15 which engages a bevelled gear 16 on a shaft 17 which also carries a detachable cam 18. The tool may be periodically disengaged from the work by means of a rock-shaft 21 which, by rack-and-pinion gearing, actuates a slide 24 to which is connected an angularly adjustable guide 25. A slide 26 movable in this guide carries a hollow threaded shaft slidable on a shaft 28 which makes threaded engagement with a slide 29, and is journaled in the slide 30 having transverse ways 30<a>. The slide 30 moves along the ways 1<k>, and the stroke of the tool may be varied by setting a pivotal connexion on a connecting- rod 33 at different distances from the centre of the wheel 16. For taper work the guide 25 may be angularly adjusted.
