Abstract

1487077 Aircraft wings DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 20 Oct 1975 [29 Oct 1974] 46863/74 Heading F2R [Also in Division B7] An aircraft wing 2 which receives the efflux of a jet engine 1 along its upper surface, has a hinged trailing edge portion 2a and retractable flap 4. The trailing edge portion is movable between a lower position in which it abuts the flap 4 and forms with it a continuous curved surface, and an upper cruise position (shown) in which the efflux is not directed over the flap 4. In its lower position the trailing edge portion serves to direct the efflux over the flap 4 and an additional flap 5 to increase lift. The trailing edge portion 2a may also be positioned upwardly so as to act as a spoiler to reduce lift. The trailing edge portions 2a of the port and starboard wings may be linked so as to act in the opposite sense and thus control roll of the aircraft.
