1486861 Disc-type centrifuges J F IVIN AN LEVISCHEV and VI SOKOLOV 20 March 1975 11550/75 Heading B2P A disc-type centrifugal separator includes supply means for an emulsion or a liquid suspension to be separated into light and heavy fractions, outlet means for separately discharging the light and heavy fractions, and a pack 2, Fig. 1, of annular frusto-conical discs 3 spaced axially apart by means of at least two spacer lugs 16, Fig. 2. on each disc, each disc having a plurality of ribs 15 defining flow channels leading from the outer periphery towards the inner periphery of the disc. The discs 3 are secured on a holder 4 which is fastened to a cover 5 mounted on a bushing 6 slipped on the driving shaft 7 of the separator bowl 1. The emulsion or suspension to be separated is supplied via an annular chamber 8 in the cover 5 and flows through channels 9 and channels formed between ribs 10 on the holder. Separated liquid is discharged from between the discs 3 via channel's 11 in the holder, channels 12 in the cover and an annular chamber 13. The other separated fraction is discharged continuously or intermittently. through a hole 14 at the bottom of the bowl 1 or alternatively, via nozzles. auger screws or opening slits. The ribs 15 extend radially, or at an angle to the generatrix of the disc, to define inwardly directed flow passages. The ribs have a variable length which increases as the distance of the discs 3 from the channels formed between the ribs 10 increases. The number of the ribs 15 on each disc may be the same or it may increase in the same manner as for its length. The ribs may be provided either on the external or internal side of each disc. The lugs may be secured to the ribs 15 or directly to the external or internal side of each disc. The number of lugs is the same for all the discs. At assembly the lugs are arranged one above the other. The lugs may be polygonal or circular in shape.
