Abstract

1486321 Rolling mill rolls SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd 15 Oct 1974 [17 Oct 1973] 44732/74 Heading B3M A roll for use in rolling non-ferrous metals, e.g. aluminium strip, has a surface including very small bowl-shaped depressions formed by sand blasting. The surface may additionally have small groove-like depressions extending parallel to the roll axis or at an angle of up to 60 degrees from the axis. The bowl-shaped depressions have a maximum depth of between 0À001 and 0À008 mm. When cold rolling strip between a pair of rolls, one or both of which have such depressions, escape of lubricant (which may be palm kernel oil plus petroleum) tends to be prevented.
