Ball bearings. - The balls of a thrust-bearing are confined in a cage consisting of a number of loops 4 of coiled wire inserted through holes in a metal ring 5, which resists centrifugal force acting on the balls, and also retains fragments of broken balls between the bearing-surfaces 1. The ring 5 may have a groove 7, Fig. 5, to receive the straight lengths of wire, and the edges of the holes may be bevelled or rounded, as shown.
