Abstract

1485106 Container and closure D EVANS 4 Feb 1976 04459/76 Heading B8T In a container and closure combination, the inner surface of the container 1, in the region of the mouth, inclined inwardly in the direction of the mouth, as at 3, and the closure comprises a plate 4 locatable within the mouth, and a cover 9 locatable over the mouth, connecting means, e.g. threaded stud 6 attached to the plate 4 and passing through the cover 9, being provided between the plate and cover to draw the plate towards the cover whereby the inclined edge 7 of the plate bears against a sealing means, e.g. O-ring 8, to bring the sealing means into engagement with the inclined surface 3 of the container. The edge of the plate makes an acute angle with the container inner wall, the sealing ring 8 being accommodated in said angle. The plate 4 may also be provided with a rubber lining 5. The plate 4 is drawn towards the cover 9, which may have a rim 10 surrounding the container mouth to prevent splaying thereof, by tightening a nut 12 on the threaded stud 6. The container is preferably of rubber to enable distortion during insertion of the plate.
