Abstract

1484901 Knitting PRENIHAN AG 9 Jan 1975 [21 Jan 1974] 02754/74 Heading D1K A one piece knitted garment, e.g. tights or pantyhose, with or without legs comprises a pants portion 12 in which the wales run between the legs or leg openings and which has a waist opening 17 extending over a plurality of both wales and courses and bounded by a waistband 18 knitted integrally with the portion 12 and incorporating some of the wales of the latter, at least the coursewise sections 21, 22, 29, 31 of the waistband being elasticated. The crotch portion 19 of the garment has a central band 19a with tuck loops held over a plurality of courses and one or more bands 19b, c of lesser course-wise extent on each side thereof with tuck loops held over fewer courses to shape the garment and give ventilation. Shaping may alternatively be provided by partial courses above the crotch portion. The garment is knitted with stretch yarn; portions 11, 13 may be plain micromesh or have floats for patterning. The toes and heels may be reinforced and the former closed automatically or subsequent to knitting. The portion 12 suitably has tuck stitches and in the waistband 18 natural or synthetic elastomeric yarn is knitted, tucked or laid in course wise or wale-wise, the end portions 22, 29 of the waist opening are formed as turned welts with the aid of welting instruments. The opening itself is made by putting out of action a group of successive needles and continuing with continuous rotary or reciprocatory knitting. In the former case the yarn is cut and trapped or the floats may be subsequently removed. Areas 25, 26 of the waistband may be puckered by holding the elastomeric yarn over groups of courses. After knitting the garment may undergo "hot box" treatment, Specifications Nos. 1235361; 1273566; 1292619; 1484902 are referred to.
