1484869 Monoazo dyes from hydroxypyridone coupling components IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 July 1975 [29 July 1974] 33325/74 Heading C4P Novel dyestuffs of the formula (wherein X is H, Cl, Br, CN, SO 2 CH 3 , CO 2 H, alkoxycarbonyl, or optionally substituted carbamoyl; Y is H, Cl, Br, NO 2 , CN, SO 2 CH 3 , phenylsulphonyl, CH 3 , OCH 3 , phenylazo, CO 2 H, alkoxycarbonyl, optionally substituted carbamoyl or sulphamoyl, COCH 3 , benzoyl or optionally esterified sulpho; R<SP>1</SP> is H, OH, CN, optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl or heterocyclyl, -COOR<SP>4</SP>, -COR<SP>4</SP> or -CONR<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP> in which R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are H or optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl or heterocyclyl; R<SP>2</SP> is alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or optionally substituted heterocyclyl; and R<SP>3</SP> is H or optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl or heterocyclyl; and which contain one or two SO 3 H groups) are prepared by coupling diazotized suitable 2-nitroanilines with appropriate hydroxypyridones which may contain Br or CONH 2 in the 5-position (this substituent being eliminated in the coupling.) In one example an amino group in R<SP>3</SP> is subsequently acylated. The dyes are used to colour natural or synthetic polyamide materials.
