Abstract

1484359 Automatic circuit breakers FUCHS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES (PTY) Ltd 6 Sept 1974 39006/74 Heading H1N A trip arrangement for a circuit breaker comprises a thermally sensitive bimetal strip 7 connected in series with a fixed and a movable contact 2, 3 of the circuit breaker, a magnetic material polepiece 21 mounted on the bimetal strip, and an armature 17 pivotally mounted on a temperature compensating element 16 which is connected to a latching member 11 latching the circuit breaker mechanism 15, the armature being attracted to the polepiece when overloadcurrent above a threshold value flows in the bimetal strip, to displace the latching member 11 via the compensating element 16 to trip the circuit breaker, and the bimetal strip 7 deflecting to displace the latching member 11 again via the compensating element 16 to trip the circuit breaker when a persistent overload current below the threshold value flows in it. The temperature compensating element 16 is also a bimetallic strip, and this deflects in sympathy with the bimetallic strip 7 under ambient temperatures to make the operation of the trip arrangement independent of ambient temperature.
