Abstract

1483400 Electro-photography SAVIN BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 1 April 1975 [17 June 1974] 13269/75 Heading G2H The bias applied to developing electrodes 72, 74, 76, 78 is adjusted in accordance with a measure of the potential on photo-conductive surface 16, obtained by a separate electrode 64 by conduction through the liquid developer. Preferably the electrode 64 is one of three, 62, 64, 66, arid these are so positioned that one at least measures an unimaged margin area. Circuitry selects the lowest reading from the three electrodes, and the development electrodes are biased accordingly, preferably to an overall bias slightly greater than the potential value sensed in the clear area. When charged and unexposed area 60 passes the electrodes 62, 64, 66, 72, 74, 76, 78 it attracts any toner deposits formed away from them, so that they are ready to sense and develop a further image. Alternatively the drum 10 may include a section with a plastics material coating, or a reverse bias may be applied to the development electrodes.
