Abstract

1483344 Pressure sensing MARCONI CO Ltd 5 Aug 1974 [13 Nov 1973] 52547/73 Heading GIG [Also in Division H3] A pressure sensor comprises a sending and a receiving transducer on a body of Piezo-electric acoustic-wave propagating medium, the body being deformable by the pressure to be sensed so as to vary the wave propagation time between the transducers. In the Fig. 2 embodiment a chamber in which a fluid-pressure P is to be sensed is defined by quartz crystal 10, plate 14 and peripheral seal 16. An acoustic surface wave is propagated between transducers 18, 20 which are connected in the feedback loop of an amplifier to form an oscillator whose frequency depends on the acoustic path length, hence on deformation of crystal 10. Each electrode is of inter-digitated form.
