Abstract

1483241 Dry-cooling coke KOPPERS CO Inc 20 Nov 1974 [19 Dec 1973] 50382/74 Heading F4B Apparatus for dry cooling coke comprises a cooling chamber 13 with an upper gas collecting annulus 19 and an offtake 39, a waste heat boiler 51, a return conduit 61 for cooled gases opening into the chamber 13 near its base and a conduit 67 leading from the outlet 33 of a coke receiver 29 to said conduit 61 and an automatic pressure controller 75 in said conduit 67 whereby atmospheric pressure can be preserved at the bottom of the receiver and the apparatus can operate continuously. The apparatus also includes a separating chamber 41 with baffle 43, an evaporator 55, cyclone separators 59 and 69 and a recirculating fan 63. The frusto-conical bottom 23 of the chamber 13 defines an annular space 27 for the recirculated gases. Gases leaving by the conduit 67 can be diverted by a fan 77 and line 79 to a connection 49 between the separator 41 and waste heat boiler 51. All the parts of the cooler, the offtake 39, the separator 41 and a discharge shoot 35 are lined with refractory 37.
