Abstract
1482889 Anchoring bolts BERGWERKSVERBAND GmbH 18 March 1976 [18 March 1975] 10912/76 Heading F2H A rock bolt has end portions 200, 201 for fixing to or engaging the rock 10, a tie rod 2 connecting the end portions together, and a slip coupling between the ends that allows the ends to move apart under excessive loads due to shifting of the rock strata, while being sufficiently rigid not to slip under normal loads. In Fig. 1, the end 200 of the tie rod 2 is secured to the rock by adhesive 8 while the end 201 is threaded to receive a nut 12 which bears on a facing plate 11. The tie rod comprises two portions 26, 27 with overlapping slidable portions 28, 29 held together by rings 35, 36. Abutments 33, 34 on the portions 28, 29 limit the extent of sliding movement which occurs on overload. In Fig. 2, a gripping element 3 secured to the tie rod 2 engages a friction lining 5 of an anchor tube 4 which is secured to the rock by adhesive 8. The outer end of the tube 4 tapers radially inwardly at 14, to guide the tie rod via a seal 15. The inner end of the tube is closed by a plate 6, which may have a cutting crown 7 to expedite penetration of the rock bolt into the adhesive 8. A key 161 prevents relative rotation between the tube 4 and the tie rod 2 while the rock bolt is being installed. The gripping element 3 may be cylindrical, conical (Fig. 3, not shown), or an expander wedge (19) (Fig. 4, not shown) to expand the inner end of the rod 2 against the tube 4. In Fig. 5, a long tube 40 with a friction liner 5 is secured at its ends to the rock by adhesive 8, a sleeve 22 isolating the middle part of the tube from the adhesive. The tie rod 2 is frictionally connected at its ends to the ends of the tube 40 by gripping elements 30, 31. A cap 23 at the outer end of the tube 40 is keyed thereto at 164. The middle of the tube 40 is weakened by a notch 20 to enable the two halves of the tube to separate at a predetermined load. Instead of friction slip couplings, hydraulic or shear type couplings may be used.
