1482833 Roll balers INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO 19 Sept 1975 [19 Sept 1974] 38526/75 Heading A1F A roll balen has an expansible bales forming zone defined by the upper run 98 of a lower endless belt 92 and a plurality of upper endless belts 54 disposed thereabove about rollers e.g. 56, 58. Hay, for example, is picked up from a windrow by a lifting mechanism 88 and fed between roller 94 and a press, roller 108 into the ball forming zone the upper part of which is defined by the sections 54' of the upper belts. As the bale grows the sections 54' are pushed upwardly against the action of a spring 86 on a belt tensioning means 72, at the same time, a roller 64, pivotably mounted on the gate 24 and closing the rearward part of the bale forming zone, slides rearwardly on a guide track close to and parallel with the upper run of the belt 92. When the bale is complete the gate 24 is swung upwardly about a pivot 26 by cylinders 52 and the bale is conveyed rearwardly out of the baler by the belt 92. Chain drive means, Fig. 6 (not shown) powered from the P.T.O. shaft of a tractor is employed to drive the drive rollers 66, 68 of the upper belts, roller 94 of the lower belt, the hay lifting device 88 and the press roller 108. All the driving parts are concentrated in a small area at the front of the baler and contained in a housing (206), Fig. 1 (not shown).
