Abstract

1482760 Credit cards and the like BURROUGHS CORP 20 Nov 1974 [19 Dec 1973] 50224/74 Heading B6A In the manufacture of a credit card or the like, layers of material forming transparent areas 24, 26, 28, magnetizable areas 14, 16 and signature areas 20 are applied in the form of abutting, co-planar stripes, to opposite faces of a rigid, synthetic resin material base sheet. One face of the base sheet may be coated only with the transparent layer, or may include the signature area in its coating. The transparent layer at 26 extends only part way across the card, the remainder of the area comprising a layer with an array of magnetizable lines 18. The base sheet may be printed or embossed at 12 before coating. The transparent layers may be coloured or fluorescent. The layers are applied simultaneously in the fluid state by a multiple orifice coating head. The resultant solidified, flush surfaces of the card may be polished to a glass finish.
