Abstract

1481491 Lamp combined with a book enclosure N D WISE 21 Jan 1975 [5 Feb 1974] 2519/75 Heading F4R A combination book enclosure and reading lamp device comprises first and second cover portions 15, 16, a spine portion 17 which extends at a fixed obtuse angle from the first cover portion 15 and which is hinged at 34 to the second cover portion 16, a lamp housing 42 disposed at the outer margin 19 of the first cover portion 15 and having an upper edge 48 which releasably retains the outer edge 22 of the second cover portion 16 when the enclosure is closed and a lamp 44 within the housing for illuminating the book, and a flexible link 56 extending between the ends of the spine 17 for passing between pages of the book to retain the bookspine against the spine portion 17. The cover 16 has sufficient flexibility to assist the engagement of the tongue 50 thereof with the groove 49 in the lamp housing 42 to close the enclosure. The lamp 44 includes a bulb 43 disposed at the focus of the generally cylindrical, parabolic part of the reflector 46, planar end reflectors 91, 92 also being provided to give a fan-shaped beam. The lamp may be powered from batteries, which may be rechargeable, in container 51, or from a mains supply. The spine 17 may be integrally formed with the cover portion 15 and disposed at an angle of 110 to 140 degrees with respect thereto, and and the hinge 34 permits the cover portion 16 to swing through 110 degrees with respect to to the spine. The releasable fixing of the link 56 to the spine at 37 may be adjustable to properly accommodate books of different thickness, Figs. 4 and 5, (not shown).
