Abstract

1481446 Maleic anhydride MONSANTO CO 13 Dec 1974 [14 Dec 1973] 53927/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] Maleic anhydride is made by contacting, at 350-600‹ C., a mixture of an oxygen-containing gas a C 4-10 non-aromatic hydrocarbon or oxygenated compound, containing at least four carbon atoms in a chain with a solid catalyst comprising P a VII c X d O e where II is a group IIa element, X is Ag, Ti, Zr, Hf, Cr, Fe and Ni, a=0.5-2, c=0À01-0À2 and d=0 or 0.01-0.2. In the examples the starting materials used are butane, butene-1 and butadiene.
