Abstract

1481240 Cutting apparatus OSCAR MAYER & Co Inc 29 Oct 1974 [1 Nov 1973] 46712/74 Heading B4B [Also in Division B8] An apparatus for packaging sausages, individually sealed from one another, in groups comprises means for sealing individual sausages between upper and lower webs of packaging film (11, 12) Fig. 1 (not shown) and a wheel 25 carrying knives 75<SP>1</SP> for completely severing the webs between groups of sausages and knives (75) Fig. 5 (not shown) for perforating the webs between each sausage in each group. The sausages sealed between the webs (11, 12) are conveyed under the wheel 25 on an endless chain of parallel lower die blocks 14 and the knives 75,<SP>7</SP> (75) are projected into spaces between the lower die blocks (14), by respective pneumatic piston and cylinder assemblies 77, 78, to completely sever or perforate the webs. Each piston and cylinder assembly is supplied in turn with air through passageways in the wheel 25 and a valve ring 87 which co-operates with a valve fitting 93 telescopically mounted on a fixed nipple 91 and urged against the valve ring 87 by air pressure. The valve fitting 93 includes polytetrafluoroethylene sealing rings (97, 98) Fig. 4 (not shown) which seal with the valve ring 87. The wheel 25 also carries heated resiliently mounted upper blocks 44 which include recesses 65 and co-operate with the lower die blocks 14.
