1480371 Continuous type towel dispenser STEINER CO LAUSANNE SA 16 July 1974 [4 Sept 1973] 31476/74 Heading B8M In a continous-type towel dispenser in which clean towelling passes upwardly between a shiftable pinch roller and a drive roller, over the pinch roller downwardly and out of the housing into a loop accessible to a user, and back into the housing to a shiftable and rotatable used towel storage roller contacting the drive roller, the three rollers are mounted on supports on either housing side, and the pinch roller and the drive roller are mounted by roller surfaces on the supports. As shown, Fig. 3, towelling pulled downwards into exposed loop 205 rotates tubular pinch roller 160 and presses it via running towel against tubular drive roller 140 which rotates expanding used-towel roll 207 on storage roller 130. The towel is urged into contact with roller 160 by door-mounted member 104. The roller surfaces lie on two supports 110, Fig. 4, each of one or more pieces. Roller 160, larger than roller 140, is mounted on support guides 125 with its e.g. above that of roller 140 which is mounted on support surfaces 120. Stub shafts 132 of roller 130 initially rest on support elbows 117 and rise and rotate on support ramps 116. The pinch and drive rollers have an abrasive covering, e.g. sandpaper. One pinch roller end, Fig. 8, having bent-out cam 168 and stop 172 coacts with pivoted pawl 180 to form a towel dispensing stop. After less than 360 degrees of anti-clockwise rotation from a first position, Fig. 8, cam 168 coating with follower 190 projects pawl catch 195 to abut stop 172, Fig. 9. Release of the towel allows weighted end 199 to pivot the pawl to the Fig. 8 position. A straightener for used towel re-entering the dispenser through slot 80, Fig. 10, is formed by towel-contacting edges 71, 76 on plates 70, 75 which are spaced to allow an attendant's hand to feed a towel end on to roller 130. Alternatively, Fig. 11, pinch roller 360 drives storage roller 320 via chain-coupled drive rollers 340, 350, and roller 320 is guided in slots between ramps 316, 318.
